The Criminal Investigations & Special Operations Division is headed by Deputy Chief Mark Cooper.
Deputy Chief Cooper has been serving at The Newnan Police Department for over 20 years. He began his career as the civilian jailor, transitioned to a patrol officer and then became a patrol sergeant. His next assignment was with the Drug & Vice Unit as the Unit Supervisor. He was then promoted to Patrol Lieutenant and later to his current position of Deputy Chief over Criminal Investigations and Special Operations. Deputy Chief Cooper has also served for 10 years as the Special Response Team Commander.
Deputy Chief Cooper is responsible for the day to day operations of the support services units. These units are designed to have specialized training for their assignments and reduce time spent on cases initiated by the Patrol Division. Each unit is responsible for concentrated enforcement activities or investigations in order to hold people accountable for criminal activity. Deputy Chief Cooper is tasked with making sure all units stay within budgetary and performance policies, while providing a high level of customer service to our citizens.
